| This is a file used by ITunes for music sharing. Its not an essential process so having it running is down to user preference.

| "Bonjour is a general method to discover services on a local area network. This technology is widely used throughout Mac OS X and allows users to set up a network without any configuration. Currently it is used by Mac OS X and on other operating systems to find printers and file sharing servers. It is also used by iTunes to find shared music, iPhoto to find shared photos, iChat, Adobe Creative Suite 3, Proteus, Adium, Fire, Skype, and the Gizmo Project to find other users on the local network" More information

| Used by both Apple and Adobe - therefore if you install Itunes your get Bonjour; if you install Photoshop CS3 - or any of the other CS3 products you also get Bonjour.
I have found that CS2 products work without it but CS3 products need it to start.
Seems we have to live with it if we want to use the latest Apple and Adobe products.

| Annoying yes, but not dangerous and shouldn't impact performance (perceived threat?). Used by Apple (and maybe Adobe, can't vouche for that) for updates and other Interweb stuff.

| Nothing really needed to be said, after Marcel's comment. Just read what Marcel said and you'll understand the process.

| Simply put, its trustworthy. If your AV told you that it contained a virus, chances are that the virus ran in the background on your PC locally for some time and attached to or hijacked Bounjour to gain access to your filesystem. AV programs tend to only discover high profile actions like this and since Bonjour was the "victim" AV software blames them since it was their services that carried the virus when the high profile action was taken. Also, this service is signed by Apple and accusing it of mistrust is the same as questioning Apples motives. If your overly worried about viruses, don't listen to your AV (A certain few, actually are known to install the virus on your PC so that you must pay to remove it) Without viruses there is no use for AV software. Bonjour is free and would not benefit from such shady methods, if anything it would jeapordize Apple Inc as a whole; it is signed by them. I don't expect everybody to take my word for it but I have seen shady AV Companies as well as legitimate (Honest) AV companies claim a program is a virus. My favorite AV, Avast! still claims that a program that I wrote, and obtained no code from anywhere else, is a Win32Trojan. Just don't trust everything you hear, most of all don't ever assume an antivirus company is your friend. Learn how to recognize an instance of a virus while it remains a low-profile threat, and will bog your CPU down by a few percent and you will not only be saving money, but any valuable data as well. one last note, if your av never gives you a full, clean scan and always finds something, do a little investigating, I know a few companies that have actually invented fake file extensions and got away with it for quite some time. Sorry my comment was so long,
but it is important to understand that all viruses are created with motive, they don't just spawn randomly across the internet and wreak havoc on PC's for fun. Instead of jumping to blame the target, instead question what company may benefit from the virus, if it does indeed exist. Some articles I read have said that you cannot terminate Bonjour, that is not true, in that case it has been hijacked, and thus is no longer truely Bonjour. More information
