| Appears to be harmless, but also appears to be unnecessary. I have disabled the service for long periods of time while still running my Nvidia graphics card and appeared to lose no functionality or speed...

| spupdsvc.exe belongs to the Microsoft Update RunOnce Service.
It is a program which is non-essential,
Don't need it running, close it.

| It is normally safe to disable the service but if you encounter any problems afterwards you have to activate it again.
Everything is still working properly on my system. I can use the configuration and all applications and games do work as before.
Some reports on the Internet suggested that this could indeed speed up shutdown and startup time. Some others reported problems with temperature reporting after disabling the service.

| When disabled, I lose some of the features of my video card. I lose the ability to have a window switch monitors in full screen. It is probably not needed for those of you using only one monitor though.
