| This came with the latest version of IE 7 that I installed and it has caused nothing but problems, slowing down my computer to a crawl, even when doing nothing. It's awful.

| Ate my speed and made me vulnerable. So far I'm waiting to see how this code was in my best interest in ANY way! I would not have CHOSEN to download this. How do I kill it without disabling all security???

| this is the windows alerts popup file.. it will always come up when any of these things happen:
1: you dont have your firewall working, either windows or any other that you might have installed.
2: you haven't activated windows updates or
3: you don't have any antivirus installed in your computer or your antivirus program is out of date...

| This application keeps telling me that Zone Alarm Pro is turned off when it is not. It also tells me that AVG is turned off, which is not true. How do I get rid of it other than editing the registry?

| If this file is in folder C:\Windows\System32, it is part of Windows' Security Center Notification application (Service Pack 2). There are mixed opinions about it, but the majority recommend leaving it alone. (Some people claim it slows down their computers.) Note - If it's located anywhere other than in your C:\Windows\System32 folder, be careful ... you need to scan and clean your system carefully.

| The first time I came across wscntfy.exe was when I ran a keylogger on my own system - which hides itself by calling itself wscntfy.exe. Specifically this was "Family Keylogger" from spyarsenal.com.
But usually wcntfy.exe is just the notifications process for Windows Security Center.
If you want to stop the process, its very simple. Just follow the instructions from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_disablescalerts.mspx
---
1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Security Center.
3. In the Security Center, under Resources, click Change the way Security Center alerts me.
4. In the Alert Settings dialog box, clear the Firewall, Automatic Updates, or Virus Protection check boxes, and then click OK.
-----
I have the 3 check-boxes unticked and wsntfy.exe no longer runs on my machine. More information

| people get real. this is malware. it tells you lies about how the security on your computer is running. it also causes a lot normally restricted pop-ups to come up. Its so annoying even BitDefender cant get rid of it. It is recognized as a virus. But because of its location theres nothing you can do about it.
