| It is a subprogram of Adobe Reader one that uses some time to sart up. Speed Launcher loads a part of that program resident so the startuptime of Adobe Reader will be a lot shorter. More information

 TK
| Remove it if you are low on RAM ie 512M with Vista or 256M with XP etc. Downside is acrobat reader will take a bit longer to launch te first time each session
|
 Sebastian S
| Remove it whatever RAM you got, if you want your Windows startup to load quicker.
Adobe Reader can be loaded while i.e. browsing the internet, well you can't do that while Windows is loading. A totally unnescessary application in my opinion, and I have NO idea why Adobe didn't warn me about this during installation.

| I used every trick in the book to speed up my PC and was working nicely. Once this was added to my start up list I had time to visit me Granny while waiting start up.
Don't use unless you are always on Adobe, or you like visitng your Granny.

| It installs with Adobe Reader 8, It makes it quicker to open a .pdf file but I do not recommend you keep this in your start up manager unless you have at least (3gb vista, 1gb xp) of ram and a strong processor, even with out it adobe still opens quick (1-2 sec) on my computer, not for sure why it doesn't ask you if you want to install this files while in installation.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

| While I do find most adobe programs quite useful, there is no reason for them to start at boot. This one takes resources and is totally unnecessary. If you update, this will re-install itself, so watch for that.
|
 Sir Eric
| You can live with out it and you can't live with it. Adobe places it back when opening the program. What a stinker, Adobe is my pal but I perfer to keep it down the street and not at my dinner table.

| This Startup Application is unnecessary when you are not using adobe reader that much.

| Harmless but unnecessary. Adobe Reader 9 still opens in about a second and pdf files on websites open in a couple of seconds.
|
 Allen
| OK.. say it is unnecessary. How am I to uninstall it exclusively i.e. without also removing adobe reader.

| I've shit-canned adobe reader in favor of Fox-it Reader. Do a search for this un-bloated app on www.pcworld.com.

| Is used to make loading of Adobe Reader faster. If you open a lot of .pdf files may be of use, but normally this is not needed. However, if you start Adobe Reader once, the system will keep it cached for a while (or if you have enough RAM, even until you restart), so it's mostly helpful for the first run of Adobe Reader.
|
 TechDude
| not required but some users like it. loads Adobe Reader faster.
|
 cracklePop
| This is a registry setting in the RUN group. It noticeably slows down XP startup, and is more junk chewing up ram. Find it here: "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher=C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe". Wouldn't it be nice if this was a setup option somewhere?
|
 John Paul Hurren
| I don't think it's necessary. Adoe will load in 2 - 3 secs anyway!

| Apparently the main program is so bad that it needs a helper. Better stay away until you start the main program.

|
 bokkie
| quite unnecessary. Saves you just a few seconds if you open a pdf file, but for the rest it's useless
|
 Noelle Bush
| Safe, but unecessary, crapware.

| Only leave on if you frequently us adobe reader. It slows down windows startup considerably.
|

| Un required, just wait the few seconds extra when you actually do use adobe reader, it's so rarely used anyway, it doesn't warrant having it start on startup constantly.

| Unless the main reason you use a computer is viewing PDFs, this program is pointless to have at start-up.
|
 Greg
| It is a terrible waste! I can't even go to a directory with PDF files in it without it popping up on me! I close it down and it pops right back up. Adobe tells you to drag it out of startup, but it isn't in startup. I disabled it in msconfig and it still happens. Adobe has hit a brand new low!!

| The Acrobat Reader Speed Launcher is added to your registry startup when Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed. It supposedly increases the speed the reader launches, but in actuality the benefit is negligible. However, it will definitely cause the rest of your system to bog down. I highly recommend removing it. BEWARE: Every update to the reader (automatic or manual) will cause it to be added back to the registry so it launches at each startup. Shame on you, Adobe!

| Remov-lo se voc estiver com pouca ou seja, 512 MB de RAM com o Vista ou XP com 256M etc Desvantagem Acrobat Reader vai demorar um pouco para lanar primeira vez que te cada sesso

| It's a bit rich that this so-called "Speed Launcher" claims to help Acrobat Reader open that little bit quicker. Even with it running, Acrobat take ages to launch.
|
 Nando
