| It's really not needed.. just helps Apple Quicktime startup a bit faster.

| Safe but annoying and unnecessary. Must be disabled; simply removing from the registry will result in Quicktime restoring the entry upon the next the program run.
|
 Perri Poirier
| Quicktime checks to see if the entry is present and restores it if it has been removed. WORKAROUND: place a ; (semi colon)in front of the entry, which turns it into a registry remark rather than a function.

| Unnecessary and most folks don't use it. The qttask.exe process provides a system tray icon that you can use for quick access to the QuickTime application and additional settings. If you use the system tray icon to launch QuickTime you should leave this process running, otherwise you can terminate it to free up system resources and/or space on your start bar. More information

| May be save but resource-wasting background process, but may also be a known virus or trojan. Either way, I would get rid of it. There's no need for the taskbar icon or auto-startup.

| The bad press alone from annoyed users would be enough to make them stop this, one would think. Furthermore, now they are only bundling the player (which you prolly HAVE to have for one reason or another) with ITUNES - another Apple monstrosity, with DRM no less - so you can't get the player by itself. Would somebody PLEASE make a QT alternative that works without having to install Quicktime??

| does not effect Quicktime that much. Trustworthy. but unnecessary.
|
 FC
| Unnecessary (it may speed up access to QuickTime, but if it does it's not measurable), obtrusive (it is installed automatically by QuickTime and there is no option to exclude it from installation) and it bears similarities to malware (it can be excluded from startup, but the relevant registry entries will be recreated the first time QuickTime is launched). Need I say more?

| If you want a QuickTime alternative, google
Quicktime Alternative or QT Lite. These allow you to play quicktime files from your browser without the installation of the apple program. More information

| i wouldn't say it was dangerous, at all. it may slow you computer down, but it is not spy-ware, so it isn't 'dangerous' irritating, yes dangerous, no. also, if you use VLC Media Player, you don't need QuickTime, unless you need it for iTunes, on which ground i am totally lost, as i wouldn't touch iTunes (or Limewire, or anything of that type of spy-ware ridden crap) with a 1000 foot barge pole. as for getting rid of it, i use a very neat little program called Autoruns, which even shows you all the little .dll's that get switched on during start-up, and in my experience, if i used Autoruns to turn something off, it doesn't return unless i let it.
|
 Mike
| only neccessary if your one of the few people who need speed for a crappy media program, it's up to you if you want it
|
 Tommy
| With it, you cant run windows aero theme.
If you want to stop it easily then go to the task manager. Then go to the "Processes" tab. look for qttask or qttask.exe, click on it. Then go to the bottom left of the tak manager and press end process then it should come on. If it doesnt then switch it on windows colors and appearance.

| Pain in the freakin' ass! I wish Apple would get Quicktime on a diet! It takes up so much resources when starting. every system I've seen it has to stop everything it's doing to help this thing start. It also takes forever. What on earth can it be doing with all that time?

| One of the reasons why Adobe Flash Video became the standard in Web video instead of Quicktime which is ages ahead.
By putting it to startup, you guarantee windows users hate your software without even launching it.

| Definitelty unecessary. I have more than 50 softwares installed and if i'd let them install all their startup registry items and let them run all their services, my computer would take 2 hours to boot. Apple is definately not aware of that and doesn't care about Windows users, since the iTunes installer installs more than 4 services and 2 startup executables which is absolutely ridiculous. "Apple Mobile Device", "Apple Software Update" "Bonjour Service", "iPod Service", "iTunesHelper.exe" and "QuickTimeTask.exe". That's why I use a 3rd party plug-in for my iPod to work in MS WMP and I'll never use this crappy software again.

| I dislike all video/media products that park themselves in my memory without being needed... this includes windows/winamp/quicktime/realplayer etc. A program should be fleet footed to load, and not attempt to garner market share by taking away choices from me. I am not anti-anybody, but pro choice with my use of applications.

| 1) Using Regedit Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREApple Computer, Inc.QuickTimeActiveX
Find the value QTTaskRunFlags, right click on it and change the value to 0
2)Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
Delete the value pointing to qttask.exe
That should stop it running automatically when you start windows.

| Waste of resources. No need for any program to have a separate program that checks for updates... they should only check when they are run.

| I'm a hardcore Mac user and I love QuickTime, but I must say QTTask is annoying a heck on my Windows computer. I have enough stuuf starting up on boot that I dont need asnything esle to slow things down. I have yest to see a fast QuickTime startup with this task on or off. Its not taht important to be running all the time.
