GlarySoft & OTHERS, YOU ARE ALL WRONG!!! This is NOT a Resource HOG, unless your PC doesn't have enough RAM or GBs. It is much easier to access when it has already started, than to WAIT for it. Unless you haven't used this program, then you don't know what you're talking about!!!!

para is a fag .you dont need to shout...

You don't need it to start. It just uses up memory. It is a quick start program for scanning. All you have to do is start the program and wait and extra 3 seconds

Oh and para is a fag

PARA_IS_GAY
Para likes the baloney pony.

ssbkgdupdate.exe is a process which belongs to the Scansoft Product Updater which provides software updates for ScanSoft products. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems or because of limited memory.

You can remove using the control pannel - Administrative tools - System Configuration - (Click on Services Tab) uncheck SSBkgdUpdate then Apply and OK

Thanks Joe, at least someone posted something constructive here. I followed your instructions but only found it under the startup tab. Regardless, it's disabled.

Thanks Happy... By way of Joe an easy fix,... I also needed the Startup Tab. It is a scanner updater,

This comes with Canon PIXMA MX700 printers as part of Scansofts Omnipage software and is completely safe.

Thanx for the "constructive" posting Joe!! I simply went into the Omnipage> Tools> Options> General> remove check on Enable update detection.

It's not exclusively for Canon printers. Omnipage has been around since before Canon even made printers I'm fairly certain. I have the program and my printer is a Brother. I do have a Canon camera, but I don't think that's where it came from
